Gas boiler installation is just one of the many services that we offer, we are also capable of carrying out swift repairs and are also able to offer our expert advice on anything from central heating, the bathroom fitting or any energy saving devices that you might be interested in. At Conwy Valley, we install and repair a wide range of gas boiler types, including:

  • LPG gas boilers
  • Oil fired boilers

We understand that it can be quite a commitment to maintain, and get the most from your heating system, that’s why we’re always on hand to help you. This might mean installation, or coming over to make sure that your boiler is running at full capacity, be it at your domestic or business property.

Benefits of a gas boiler

Boilers account for around 55% of what you’d spend on your energy and utility bills, so ensuring you have an efficient boiler at your service can make a huge difference to your finances. Replacing an old gas boiler with an A-rated high-efficiency condensing boiler whilst also improving your heating controls will significantly cut your home’s carbon dioxide emissions – and could end up saving you more than £300 in a single year. So it’s definitely worth thinking about, and if this sounds like something you want to look at, we’re always on hand to run you through how we can help!

Modern boilers are more efficient than older ones for several different reasons, but their main advantage is that they are all condensing boilers. All well-maintained boilers burn their fuel in a very efficient manner but they inevitably lose some heat in the hot gases which manage to escape up the flue. A condensing boiler has a bigger heat exchanger, this means it recovers more heat, whilst it also sends cooler gases up the flue and is much more efficient overall.

Sometimes the flue gases get so cool that the water vapor in the gas condenses out and when this happens, even more energy is recovered from the condensing vapor, increasing the efficiency even more.

Gas boilers for home heating

Gas boilers use natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas as their source of fuel, and like most boilers, a gas boiler uses fuel to heat water. There are different high efficiency gas boilers available on the market, this gives the consumer a wide scope, or a variety of options so that they are then able to choose the boiler which suits their home, and their own specific needs.

There are many factors which decide which type of boiler is the best option, from the amount of spare space in the property, to the need for a continuous supply of hot water. The three main types of gas boiler are:

  • Combination
  • System
  • Open vented

At Conwy Valley Plumbing, we specialise in the provision and installation of high efficiency condensing boilers, which since 2005, have to be installed by law when a new boiler is being fitted in the United Kingdom.

How do gas boilers work?

Combination gas boilers make the use of a hot water cylinder redundant as they distribute hot water to a property on demand direct from a mains supply. By not needing to use a cylinder, a combination boiler then frees up valuable space in the property. Combination boilers got their name because they heat water for both the central heating systems and for taps or showers at a property.

Looking to replace your boiler?

System gas boilers don’t require a cold water expansion tank so again, they are great if you want to save space. This type of boiler does have a hot water storage cylinder and is ideal for properties that have more than one bathroom or other multiple outlets where hot water may be required at at the same time in different places.

What is SEDBUK?

The SEDBUK rating was developed under the UK Government’s ‘energy efficiency best practices programme’ with the co-operation of boiler manufacturers. It provides a basis for fair comparison of different models of boiler.

The SEDBUK rating is the average efficiency achieved in typical domestic situations and it takes into account sensible assumptions about climate, control, pattern of usage and other similar factors.

The boiler’s performance is scored, enabling the boiler to be placed in a banding system using a scale from ‘A’ to ‘G’, with ‘A’ rated boilers being the most efficient.

Boiler repair in Llandudno

Open vented boilers are usually connected to two tanks which are installed in the loft space of the property. One of these feeds the boiler and the radiators and the other feeds an open vent hot water cylinder. As with a system gas boiler, this option is better suited to a property where several people may be using hot water at the same time as it can supply multiple outlets at the same time.

We know that it can be a real pain when something goes wrong at home, and when it’s your boiler, this can put a real spanner in the works. It’s never a pleasant experience, so that’s why we look to carry out repairs as fast as we can. This way, you’ll spend less time worrying about everything and you will be able to get on with other things, whilst one of our friendly and skilled staff get to the heart of, then fix the problem.

Always be prepared

A broken boiler can cause disruption to your home life and shake up your daily routine, especially with the commute or the school run, as well as the time we spend at work getting in the way when time could be spent maintaining the systems in your home. It’s therefore very important to keep a well maintained gas boiler and have it serviced as regularly as you can. Putting unnecessary strain on your boiler and heating systems can cause problems in the future, so limiting those chances will save you money, both in the short and in the long term.

Keep us in your phonebook, you’ll never know when you might have a problem with any of the plumbing in your home. By being able to contact us immediately about your gas boiler for example, you’ll eliminate the stress of having to find a number, and you’ll also know you can trust our team!

Never try to complete any work by yourself as this can be dangerous and you might also invalidate any of your insurance policies. The best way to be prepared for the future is to have your gas boiler looked at regularly, and by doing this, you will know if it is working properly, or if anything needs to be fixed.
